Occupy Whatever
I can’t handle this Occupy stuff any longer. No, I don’t agree with all these protests and hold outs and the reasons behind them (if they even have reasons…) But, I DO strongly believe in the peoples right to do what they are doing. Here’s the thing though… when someone I love and carefor is being arrested and shoved to the ground by the police… it breaks my heart. I just saw a whole photo series of my cousin, who is living at the Occupy DC park, being arrested. It is the most painful thing I have ever seen… because I know and love her. I have no idea what provoked the arrest… I know she is screaming in alot of the pictures, and being held back by her boyfriend (who was also arrested). I am so proud of her for firmly standing up for something she believes in, but COME ON there are better ways of getting the message across! Comply with the law and the the police officers and you will have a better shot at being heard and taken seriously. The cause that I support and have supported for 5 years now, Invisible Children, didn’t like the way that the US was dealing with the 25 year conlfict in central/eastern Africa… so we did something about it. We held peaceful and silent protests all over the world, we wrote encouraging letters to out congressmen and women, we lobbied, we made phone calls and thanked people! If you treat people with respect and compassion, they will be WAY more apt to give in to whatever it is you are asking. It just breaks my heart to see someon I love so much in these really terrifying pictures. Not a good way to start my morning. Love you Hannah <3
